i was told dealerships will pay for training by the manufacturer i hired. and i don't need to hear about how much techs work and how little they get paid for it.

It would depend on the dealership. Some would want you to have at least some basic background knowledge on cars. They wouldn't want to have to show you where the spark plugs are located or how to change a tire. For something like tires and lube, you shouldn't need any specific certifications. If anything, you will be required to have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Other times you may need to hold an ASE certification. Contact the dealership you are wanting to apply with to get the basic information.

A dealership might pay to train you in their own vehicles but you'd need to be certified before they'd talk to you.
