Selina Asked: Is it normal to be able to see a gash to the left of a cats scrotum?

I have a 4 year old neutered male cat. About 2 years ago, he was diagnosed with developing crystals in his urine and he was eating the wet c/d food but hated it so as reluctant as I was, I now feed him dry c/d with some Purina whisker lickens. He drinks plenty of water. He does not use a litter box and he goes outside to do his bathroom. Tonight I found it odd that he was sleeping a lot instead of going outside. He likes to "be on the prowl" for a few hours before coming in for the night but he has been sleeping instead. Anytime he acts 'weird" I immediately check his urine opening to make sure not to feel any wetness and any urine leaking through. Tonight it was dry but around the area I could feel hard fur. Like he had gotten into something. My cat is not a people person, at all. He is VERY self reliant. When we take him to his vet, they have to hold him down by having two technicians and one has to have a towel. With the help of my sister and me avoiding his claws, I turned him over and saw around scrotum and by my quick look, it looked like you could see inside his balls basically. Is this normal? I know I saw red tissue. Nothing fluid wise came up when I did a quick feel around his field but like I said, I had to move quick. Maybe he is in mating time? I am going to try and monitor him and see if he is able to potty. Besides his sleeping and the gash, he seems normal. He even played with me for a bit before wanting to go outside. He usually runs away when I have "attacked" his private parts.
